For good combo brows aftercare, keep the area clean and dry, avoid picking or rubbing, and pause exercise, swimming, steam and brow products while the skin heals. Follow the specific instructions I give you, because your skin, treatment and healing response all affect what is appropriate.
What should I do immediately after combo brows?
When I finish your combo brows, the area can look stronger, darker or more defined than you expected. This is normal during the early stage. The colour usually softens as the skin settles, so I ask you not to judge the final result straight away.
My aftercare for combo brows is intended to protect the treated skin while the pigment settles. I will explain exactly how to care for your brows before you leave. In general, avoid touching them unnecessarily, rubbing them or picking at any dry skin.
Always wash your hands before touching the brow area. If you notice moisture or fluid, gently dab as instructed rather than wiping across the brows. Do not apply random creams, oils or active skincare products unless I have specifically advised you to use them.
This is informational guidance, not medical advice. If you are worried about your healing or think you may be having a reaction, contact me promptly and seek appropriate medical advice where needed.
How long should I keep my combo brows dry?
Keeping the brows dry is one of the most important parts of combo brows healing care. Avoid deliberately wetting the area during the early healing period. When showering, take care not to let hot water run directly over your brows, and use care when washing your face and hair.
Take care to keep the brows protected from water. I also recommend avoiding swimming, saunas, steam rooms and activities that create heavy sweating until the skin has healed sufficiently. Hot showers and intense exercise can increase moisture and irritation around freshly treated skin.
Do not scrub, exfoliate or cleanse aggressively over the brows. When you are allowed to clean the area, use the method and product I recommend, then pat gently rather than rubbing. Your skin type and the way your brows have healed can affect the advice I give you.
If you are unsure whether an activity is suitable, ask before doing it. It is easier to protect the result during healing than to correct avoidable irritation afterwards.

Which products should I avoid during healing?
During healing, keep makeup, brow pencils, powders and other cosmetic products away from the treated area unless I tell you otherwise. The same applies to skincare products that contain exfoliating or resurfacing ingredients. These may irritate the skin and can affect how the colour settles.
Avoid applying oils, balms or household remedies to the brows without checking first. More product is not necessarily better. The correct aftercare depends on the condition of your skin and the instructions provided after your appointment.
Once the brows are fully healed, you can usually return to your normal makeup routine if you wish. Some people prefer the definition created by the treatment alone, while others still use brow makeup for extra colour or a particular occasion. If you use active skincare close to the brows, discuss it with me so we can consider how it may affect the longevity of the pigment.

What should I expect as combo brows heal?
Combo brows combine delicate hairstrokes at the front with soft shading through the body and tail. During the first part of healing, both parts may appear more noticeable than the finished result. As the skin settles, the colour normally becomes softer and the overall design appears more blended.
You may notice dryness or light flaking. Let it shed naturally. Picking or scratching can irritate the skin and interfere with the healed appearance. Healing does not look identical for everyone, so try not to compare your brows day by day with photographs online.
Permanent makeup healing takes place over several weeks. The visible result can continue to settle during that time. A follow-up or top-up may be discussed when the brows have healed, but I assess this based on the result rather than assuming every client needs exactly the same plan.
Your skin type, lifestyle, sun exposure, aftercare and the way the pigment was placed can all influence how the colour changes. Combo brows are intended to be long-lasting, but they are not unchanged forever. A future refresh may eventually be wanted.
How can I protect my combo brows after they heal?
Once the skin is fully healed, protect the brow area from unnecessary sun exposure. Sunscreen can help protect the skin and may support the appearance of cosmetic pigment over time. Follow the product instructions and avoid placing sunscreen onto broken or freshly treated skin.
Be thoughtful with exfoliating acids, retinoids and resurfacing treatments around the brows. These products can increase skin renewal and may contribute to pigment changing sooner. This does not mean you can never use them, but I recommend discussing placement and timing if they form part of your routine.
Skin that produces more oil may heal differently from dry or mature skin, and fine hairstrokes can soften over time. The shaded body and tail often continue to provide structure, but the balance varies between clients. My article on combo brows and oily skin explains what I assess before recommending this style.
If you already have old brow pigment, an uneven previous treatment or a colour you no longer want, tell me before booking. Existing pigment may affect design choices. Where appropriate, I can discuss options including PMU brow removal before considering new work.
When should I contact you about my healing?
Contact me if you are uncertain about your combo brows aftercare, if the area has been exposed to water or products, or if the healing does not seem to be progressing as expected. A photograph can sometimes help me understand what you are seeing, although I may recommend an in-person assessment.
Before treatment, I ask about allergies, skin conditions, medication, previous reactions and your expectations. Please also tell me if the brow area is irritated, inflamed or broken, because it may be better to wait until the skin has settled.
Good aftercare cannot change every factor that affects healed brows, but it gives your skin the best practical support during recovery. At consultation, I will explain the design, pigment, healing process and aftercare in relation to you, rather than giving you a generic routine.
If you would like to discuss your suitability or aftercare, you can contact me in Tollerton, York to arrange a consultation.
If you would like personalised advice, you are welcome to book a consultation.
Frequently asked questions
Can I wash my face after having combo brows?
You can, but take care not to soak or scrub the treated area during early healing. Use the cleansing method I provide, keep water from running directly over the brows, and pat gently rather than rubbing. If you are unsure when normal cleansing can resume, contact me for advice based on your healing.
Can I sleep normally after combo brows?
Try to avoid rubbing your brows against bedding, pillows or your hands while they are healing. Sleeping on your back may help if that is comfortable for you, but I do not want you to force an uncomfortable position. Clean bedding and minimal contact are sensible precautions.
Can I wear makeup around my combo brows while they heal?
It is best to keep foundation, concealer and brow makeup away from freshly treated skin until healing is complete, unless I advise otherwise. Applying cosmetics too soon can irritate the area. Once the skin has fully healed, you can normally return to makeup around the brows.
Why do my combo brows look uneven while healing?
Temporary differences can occur because each side may swell, dry or shed at a slightly different rate. Early colour intensity can also make the shape look unfamiliar. Avoid trying to correct the brows yourself. Wait for them to settle and contact me if you remain concerned.
Can I have a facial after combo brows?
Postpone facials, dermaplaning, peels, waxing and other treatments that affect the brow area until the skin has fully healed. Heat, steam, exfoliation and product contact may irritate fresh treatment. Tell any beauty professional that you have recently had permanent makeup before arranging another service.
What happens if I accidentally get my brows wet?
Do not panic or rub the area. Gently dab away moisture with clean tissue or follow the drying instructions I gave you. Avoid repeated exposure afterwards and contact me if the brows were soaked, exposed to a product or become unusually irritated.
Can I exercise after having combo brows?
Avoid heavy exercise and activities that cause significant sweating during the early healing stage. Sweat, heat and friction can irritate freshly treated skin. The appropriate return time can vary, so follow the written advice I give you and ask if your usual training is particularly intense.
